A space that facilitates connection and collaboration.
Designed to embody the ASX-listed mining and exploration company, IGO, the new workplace created by the progressive team at Rezen, demonstrates an environment reflective of the organisations dynamic culture. The project aims to create a space which celebrates its people, while providing them with a variety of work settings in an environment which facilitates connection and collaboration.
Located in South Perth, the project is orientated to take in the site’s panoramic views of the Swan River and Perth CBD. The café space and large-scale collaboration zone runs the length of the building along the river side, again reinforcing the importance of their people, and encouraging the team to access the incredible views. Due to the abundance of natural light within this area, luminaires were used sparingly and were intentionally minimal in detailing and appearance. Twin Modular Kup’s were positioned as required to highlight materiality and provide additional functional lighting.
The firm is passionate about sustainability, and is focused on working towards a clean energy future. The company’s mining processes highlight metals critical to enabling clean energy, and as such the design team sought to reflect their commitment to sustainability when selecting the projects materiality, and celebrating key moments. This approach extends out to the lift lobby which includes a feature stone wall, which was illuminated from above using a Lumino V20 graze linear profile detailed into a coffer to hide the light source, yet graze the feature material.
IGO’s workplace incorporates the use of biophilic elements aiming to increase indoor air quality, and features a high level of product which is both designed and made locally. The theme of locally designed and made inclusions extends to the featured artwork located in the aforementioned collaboration and café zone. Created by Perth based artist April Pine, this significant piece embodies a deep dive into the organisations people, values and work within local communities. The lighting brief was to create a “natural day light effect” which was to permeate the large circular void over the rock garden which houses the Pine’s artwork. To achieve a diffused, natural look, a large upside-down ring pendant from Roxo within circular coffer was detailed to wash the white ceiling, reflecting indirect light onto the sculpture. Modular Wink 115’s were selected as complementary accent lighting and installed around the perimeter of the sculpture.
By encouraging physical change to the way the team at IGO work, Rezen have delivered a project that positively impacts the businesses performance. Combined with the earthy and textural interior, the project not only reflects the nature of the business and its values, but creates a welcoming and layered experience for all to enjoy.
