Luxurious End of Trip facilities
The site where 108 St Georges Tce sits has a rich history, from its early days as the first licensed premise in Perth in 1830, to the opulent Palace Hotel opening in 1897. Much of the hotel was demolished to make way for the tower development, with the facade and main foyer of the building retained. In 1987, while the tower was still under construction, five men were arrested after illegally entering the site and parachuting from the top of the tower in the early hours of the morning! The building has had many identities, initial known as the Bond Tower, the R&I Tower, then the BankWest Tower and more recently the South32 Tower.
Fast forward to 2024 and the building is slated to be renamed to the Palace Tower, a nostalgic reference to the original Hotel, as part of a $10 million makeover aimed at securing a new anchor tenant. The makeover includes new boardroom facilities, an upgraded wellness centre, new end-of-trip facilities and lobby as well as a concierge service.
MLP worked closely with architects Woods Bagot to deliver on their design of the stunning new End of Trip facilities. The completely custom lighting arrangement follows the unique curves of the joinery, creating a visually stunning uninterrupted effect. Suspended FOURline by B4 C50S has been utilised to accentuate the earthy tones and warm finishes of the facilities. The 50x50mm profile has been powder coated in a sandy white finish, creating a clean and modern result. Lumino Match down lights have been added to fill in areas where the longer profile lights wont go.
These End of Trip facilities serve as a sanctuary for people starting and ending their work day, and as somewhere to transition before an evening out on the town.
